Image of God

We may often hear people say that we are 'made in the image of God'. You any even of said it, but what does it mean? Does it mean we physically look like God? That's hard to imagine as everybody looks so different. 

I believe it means that we are all created to reflect something of who God is. We see this verse in Genesis 1, where God is busy creating the world, universe and everything in it. Then out of everything he creates people in His image. 

You are made in the image of God. Now that should blow your mind a little bit! You are formed to be like God. You know, the everlasting creator, the one who is eternal, benevolent, full d love - you are created to be like Him!!!

Now, I wonder, if you've had these thoughts, like I have, that you're worthless, unappreciated, unknown, have no skills. Ever had those thoughts? 

I have, and I used to think that God made a mistake. He created all things well, except for me. 

Now, just have a little think about that. How crazy is that thought??

How many times has God EVER made a mistake? Oh just this once you think? Really??? 

How many times has God been wrong?

The Bible and history doesn't actually have a record of any mistakes He made, do you know why? Because he's perfect! 

Now how about this question, it's a bit easier to answer - How many times have you been wrong? 

Wait, that's a bit broad and frightening to work out - how about how many times have you been wrong in the last week? Just one week? 

Bet you can think of a few errors, or maybe dozens? So, lets go back to this question - How many times has God been wrong? 

God doesn't make mistakes. 

He tells the truth.

He says YOU are made in HIS image. 

You were born to reflect God. 

You were created to reflect His characteristics in this world. 

You were made in love, you were beautifully handcrafted with great care. 

You are not the result of a one night stand, failed contraception, bad relationship, or even a loving marriage, you were in fact created because God designed you.

Every feature, every physical attribute, every characteristic. 

Now, do you get it? You were made BY God. You are designed to BE LIKE God. 

That is immense! Think about that - YOU were formed to be like God - YOU! Wow! 

Have you ever looked in the mirror and criticised some feature? Or thought how rubbish you are, that the world is better off without you? 

STOP! 

LISTEN! 

Take this to heart because it is perfectly true; God says He made YOU in HIS IMAGE! 

You are like God, in some way you reflect who He is. He meant you to be you. 

God doesn't look at himself and think, oh well, I'm having a bad skin/hair day, and what if I upset.... oh I didn't do that well, no-one really likes me.... so why do we? 

As we are created to be like God, why are we consumed with these thoughts of insignificance? You are made perfectly and purposefully in the image of God. You are walking around this Earth displaying who God is. What an incredible job you e been tasked with! 

So stop beating yourself up about what you aren't and embrace what you are.

You are the image of God!
